Abstract

Background: Greece is known for its Mediterranean diet pattern, associated with positive effects on psychological health. Despite this, eating disorders and unhealthy relationships with food persist as pressing issues and are considered “scourge of the time.” Understanding the prevalence of nutritional disorders and the level of awareness in the population is crucial. Methods: This research conducted in Greece aims to uncover critical insights. It examines the percentage of Greeks unaware of their eating disorders, the frequency of visits to diet offices, and the manifestation of symptoms related to eating disorders. Results: Our findings reveal the extent of undiagnosed eating disorders and the typical behaviors associated with them. This underscores the importance of early detection, intervention, and public education initiatives to address the prevalent nutritional disorders. Conclusion: By enhancing awareness and implementing appropriate support mechanisms, healthcare professionals can play a pivotal role in mitigating the impact of eating disorders on individuals' physical and psychological well-being. This presentation seeks to shed light on the importance of proactive measures in managing nutritional disorders in Greece.
