Assessing the characteristics of caries and its complications at regional level
Abstract
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are currently no countries in the world where people do not suffer from oral diseases. However, there are significant differences in the prevalence of these diseases in different parts of the world, regions and countries.
Aim of the study: to identify the characteristics of the incidence of dental caries and its complications at the regional level (for the example of the Chuvash Republic for 2010-2021).
Materials and methods: The study was conducted using the method of cartographic analysis and calculation of the ratio of the average indicators (for the studied period) of the incidence of caries, as well as indicators of the incidence of caries complications. Thus, a special coefficient - SI - was determined for each administrative district of the Chuvash Republic, where S I = incidence of caries/incidence of caries complications.
Results of the research: The developed ratio of the incidence rate of caries and its complications is an index of the effectiveness of dental care for the population, showing that low incidence rate of caries and high incidence rate of complicated caries for a certain period of accounting are a negative index of the effectiveness of the outpatient department and low quality of primary medical care.
Conclusions: In accordance with the results of cartographic analysis at the regional level, you can form a model that allows correlating indicators of caries incidence of the local population and incidence of complicated caries in relation to resources (material, technical, personnel and financial) available in the health system. This, in turn, provides a unique opportunity for timely evaluation and search for all necessary resources in those areas that can increase the current effectiveness of the region's medical institutions.
